Men's Bowlling Club President Lou Butcher. . .

A message from President Lou

Hello,
Congratulations to this year’s Minor Singles Champion, Ian ‘Backie” Backhouse who, from all accounts, is playing some of his finest bowls. He defeated Warren Graham who ultimately got some satisfaction from his win in the first round of the Majors later that weekend.
The weather has not been kind to our No 1 green. Just when we started to see sunshine and fair weather, Mother Nature, being the tickled deity she is, sends down a quick 100mls of rain in a hour just to show us she can. But having abused Mother Nature, we have to just pray for a little decent weather to set the grass. I understand that the drainage problem we have been experiencing on this green appears to have been resolved with some clearing and cleaning out of some blockages in the drainage system so we should now see some better growth in the problem spots on the green.
The Men’s Invitation Triples entry forms are about to be sent out and here’s hoping for a good response for the event.
That is all for the month and in closing I just want to remind you to “keep the little ring on the inside.” !
Cheers, Lou

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

2012 CLUB MAJOR SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP

The semi finals of the Club Singles have been played. After a slow start defending champion Matt Beare fought back to level his match with Vic White at 16 all on 19 ends. He then won 9 of the next 11 ends to enter the final with a comfortable 31 -19 win.
Syd Morris never headed the consistent and experienced Vic Patrikka in their match who went on to record another comfortable 31 – 17 win and a place in the final which is due for Saturday 26 May 2012.

2012 CLUB MINOR SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP

The final of the Club Minor Singles was played on Friday and won by Ian Backhouse in a lopsided match with Warren Graham who had a bad day on the green.

2012 CLUB FOURS CHAMPIONSHIP

The final of the Club Fours was played on Sunday afternoon. In one of the closest contests in recent years the team of Phil Newman, Col Page, Bob Wren and Clarrie Danswan recovered from dropping a five on the 11th end to lead Jim Old’s team of Rami Wahab, Allan Moon (sub) and Bob Geelan by one shot on the 19th end. However Old gained the lead on the next end with two shots but Danswan’s team held their nerve and two shots on the last end to claim the Championship with a gripping 17 – 16 victory.
