A MESSAGE FROM WOMEN'S BOWLING CLUB PRESIDENT, BESS HOLLOWAY
The Pennant Season is over and what a result.
GRADE 4 – WINNERS – CONGRATULATIONS ladies!
The teams of Paula Hancock, Sue Palmer, Marjorie Kilpatrick, Helen Rees (skip) and Audrey Kirkland, Merle Waters/Judy Davis, Maralyn White, Fran Lucas (skip) went to Cooma to play on 7th and 8th May. Unfortunately they were not successful in their quest for a spot in the State title but all agreed that it was a inspiring experience and will be keen to go one step further next year.
The Non Pennant competition was very closely contested and went down to the very last day for the final result. Congratulations to the winner Hazel Elliott and runner-up Nancy Beck. Thanks to all the ladies who played in this competition and kept the home fires burning whilst we were away playing the pennant games.
DAVO’S DAY – Many thanks Ellie for your sponsorship for this day when we remember Davo— a very special member. Congratulations to Margaret Sharp and Bob Wren for their marvellous win. Also many thanks to all those who worked and contributed to such a great day.
ANZAC DAY – A special day and such a nice way to spend with our friends at Malua Bay Club. Bob Gaze with our Ivy Smith, laid the wreath during the service. I must mention our Ivy, a returned services lady, she looked so smart in her RSL uniform and is a very hard worker for both RSL and Batemans Bay Legacy.
The Major Singles Championship—The semi-finals have been completed with Karen Signor defeating Fran Lucas and Val Dundas defeating Val Clarke. All competitors are to be congratulated on some very high quality bowling. The final between Karen and Val should be an exciting affair on Tuesday 15th May so be there to see who will take out the most coveted Club title of all.
Well guys you did it too!. CONGRATULATIONS GRADE 3 PENNANT SIDE. What a great year. This has to be a good excuse for a celebration.
To those friends not well or unable to get to join us each week, take care.

Runners up with the highest number of shots on any end were Hazel Elliott, Pat Tunstall and Dot Stewart.
Ladies Major Singles results for Thursday 3rd May saw four games played. Fran Lucas and Joan Lubbe had a great tussle with Fran winning by one point.
Karen Signor and Robyn Butcher had a good game with Karen coming out on top.
Nancy White and Val Clarke in another closely contested game with Val the victor, and elsewhere Val Dundas with a good win over Monica Mulcahy.
Thursday 10th and another round of Major Singles with two games played. A great battle raged between Val Dundas and Val Clarke with Val Dundas taking the honours.
Karen Signor with great precision took the win from Fran Lucas. The final between Karen Signor and Val Dundas should be an exciting event.
CHAMPIONSHIPS
2012 CLUB MAJOR SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP
Anyone watching the final of this coveted event would have agreed that the championship could have gone either way between combatants Karen Signor and Val Dundas. However with the socreboard showing 30 shots apiece and with one bowl each to bowl, Val's bowl held shot. Karen last bowl clipped Val's and a measurement was not required giving Val the title by one shot. Thanks gals for a great final and congratulatons to you both for some hard fougt battles on the way to the final.
2012 CLUB PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIP
The final between Val Clarke/Bess Holloway and Joan Lubbe/Margaret Sharp was a close and hard fought match - either team could have taken it out with the scoreboard even on the 19th end. With Joan holding on the 20th end, Val steamed in, picked up the jack and trailed it to her own bowls, giving her a five on the end. Needless to stay it was a match-winning bowl and Val and Bess took out the 2012 Pairs Championship. A great game by all competitors.
2012 MINOR SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP
The final held on Friday was between Robyn Butcher and Paula Hancock with Robyn Butcher proving too strong and becoming the new Minor Singles Champion for 2012 well done Robyn.
2011 CLUB MAJOR/MINOR CHAMPIONSHIP
Final round Saturday 12th November saw Robyn Butcher and Val Clarke off to an early lead and keep that lead until well into the match when Judy Davis and Di Mooy picked up six shots to bring them within striking distance but to no avail as Robyn Butcher and Val Clarke kept their cool and took out the match.
Congratulations go to the Major/Minor Winners 2011 – Robyn Butcher and Val Clarke.
2011 CLUB TRIPLES CHAMPIONSHIP
Ladies triples final was a very close game with the winners winning by 2 shots. Congratulations go to Di Mooy, Nancy White and Karen Signor.
2011 CLUB VETERANS CHAMPIONSHIP
The semi final of the veteran singles was played between Erica Vogel and Dorothy Stewart, and was won by Dorothy Stewart. Unfortunately Helen Wearn had to forfeit to Marge Kilpatrick due to ill health.
The final was a thrilling game to watch with both players putting in some wonderful bowls. The eventual winner was Dorothy Stewart. This is the third time Dorothy has won the Veteran Singles Championship . . . a great effort.
2011 CLUB PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIP
The Final was played on Thursday 26th May between team Margaret Sharp/Karen Signor and Amelia Davis/Ellie Crompton.
Weather conditions were not favourable and the combatants had to deal with swirling gusty winds. Team Sharp took an early lead with a nice 4 on the second end. However Team Davis settled down nicely around the ninth end and powered home to an easy win, 23 to 12 on the twentieth end.
Well done to both teams and congratulations to Amelia and Ellie becoming the 2011 Pairs Champions.
2011 CLUB MAJOR SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP
The final of the Major Singles Championship was played on Thursday, 5th May in windy conditions between Maureen Bruce and Monica Mulcahy. Maureen was as steady as a rock and played beautiful draw bowls. She pulled away from Monica and never lost the lead. Monica, to her credit, fought back over the final three ends but there was no doubt who was in charge. Well done to both ladies.
2011 CLUB MINOR SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP
In January, after some very close encounters in the matches prior to the final, the last standing competitors for Championship honours were Paula Hancock and Karen Signor. A big gallery were in attendance to see what was to become a hard fought final. Karen got off to a great start with Paula having to steady her nerves. She did this admirably and at the business end of the match it became a bit of a nail biting finish. Karen ultimately crossed the line in fine fashion and was a proud and happy winner of her first championship (and, mark my words, it certainly won't be her last). Thank you ladies for a great final match-up.
